Introduction

With an increase in school sovereignty and push for greater school results, it has been rendered significant to implement a School Improvement Plan for each school so as to achieve success. To achieve this, school leaders need to possess certain key leadership principles which guide them through the implementation process. Therefore, this paper will discuss two significant leadership principles that guide school leaders through the school improvement plan implementation to be successful.

It is important that the school have a key individual leader to guide the implementation process. The principal as the top leader should take responsibility as a dynamic leader to share his ideas and incorporate the teachers and the students to take part (Bernhardt & Hébert, 2017). This is because important changes originate from one person’s vision and authority. The principal should encourage the teachers or others in the leadership team to share their visions that are helpful. For instance, a teacher’s motivation and passion to improve the students’ performance encourages others to get on board with the new strategies.

Tolerance for difficulties encountered during the implementation process in another significant principle (Bernhardt & Hébert, 2017). It is possible that some unforeseen circumstances might arise for instance negative student response like declining performance. The principal as the leader should preserve and remain tolerant to search difficult times. Everyone involved should commit themselves to these difficulties by working together. With the principal’s reliance on the commitment should find other alternatives to uphold his tolerance.

In essence, the School Improvement Plan relies on the Principal’s leadership strategies in order to succeed. Therefore, it is essential that the principal adopts these leadership principles which play a major role in guiding him through the implementation process to be a success.
