Selecting a career that suits your personality is the most significant thing that one can accomplish in life. Apparently, personality affects a person’s career choices. Therefore, I took a TypeFocus self-assessment survey to determine my personality. Based on the self-assessment results, I realized that I belong to ‘ESFJ’ personality. ESFJ is the abbreviation of Extraverted, Sensing, Feeling, Judging (Tieger, Barron-Tieger, & Tieger, 2014). The results of this test proved to positively match my character because I am very friendly, social and easy to get along with. I am that person who likes to nature and give a helping hand to others when need be. I am not always shy neither do I evade social events; instead I take an active participation in social event, face various types of people comfortably including those elder than me. I put emphasis on the feelings of others and that is what drives me to have that heart of nurturing and assisting other people. When it comes to doing any kind of work, I am always dedicated to getting the work done perfectly and within the time frame provided. I always abide by my traditions to love, care, guide and offer any useful services to the society. I am a person of integrity and take full responsibility for my actions. Cooperation is one of my virtues, I believe in team-building and that is proven by my active cooperation in group-centered work that I am involved in.
Understanding personality characteristics enable a person to determine whether he is going towards the right career path or towards a wrong career path. Significantly, ESFJ requires that one has to be friendly, well-coordinated and organized and also in possession of practical assistance skills based on traditional beliefs in order to have a successful career path (Tieger et al., 2014). It entails active personal involvement in activities and the desire to be practical. One has to be a genuine caregiver always dedicated to offering help. Therefore, based on the results ESFJ finds the following professions to interest people with such personality characteristics; management, teaching, caregiving, individual services and sales. Actually, these careers seem to be appealing and rewarding in my view. However, teaching career stands out for me.
I have always had a passion for teaching ever since I was young. I wanted to be a teacher. Actually, my personal mission has been to attain life contentment by serving others. Just to recap, I did not look forward to being a teacher who only do work assigned to him, but rather an inventive, industrious and self-driven teacher who focus in assisting students to achieve academic excellence. Sincerely, I feel that taking up teaching as my career is the best option that suits personalities that make a good teacher.
In essence, recognizing and understanding one’s personality is very important in determining career choices. The TypeFocus self-assessment has facilitated the acknowledgment of my personality which shapes up my career path. ESFJ personality exactly describes my character as it is in reality. I have got to understand that personality determines the type of career to take; therefore I will take my personality into consideration in making my career choice. Therefore best on the result of this test, I am overwhelmed to get to know that my personality fits my dream career. I am now inspired to make this desire a reality.
