My Colleague’s Perspective on Social Change Free Essay

My colleague’s perspective on social change covers these elements which are in tandem with my view. This paper is a response to one of my colleague’s posts and comments regarding their choice of a qualitative study in their research.

Introduction

Whilst there is no universal definition of the term social change, the inferences made from any of the definitions would all point to the pertinent elements of the society: socioeconomic, political, cultural, and norms within social circles are the vital organs of the society. My colleague’s perspective on social change covers these elements which are in tandem with my view. My colleague views the societal needs as dynamic thus requiring policymakers and developers to aptly device schemes to cope with them and further augment the efficiency of the interventions of these social needs (Pascual, et al., 2014). My colleague contends that there is a need to use existing ways to explore various ways by which promotion of social welfare can be attained hence improving the society (Olatunji, 2016). This paper is a response to one of my colleague’s posts and comments regarding their choice of a qualitative study in their research.

I tend to disagree with my colleague in the surmise that the effectiveness of a social change is varied subject to resources, social position, and capacities of individuals. Personally, I would agree with this supposition but not in totality since social change can be achieved by any individual with fewer regards to the above-aforementioned factors but by general societal interaction (Hughes, n.d.). It would be coincidental that the experience which influenced my colleague’s comprehension of social change was the results of data collection processes, their environmental perception and this comprehension of social change aided in shaping my colleague’s personal definition which apparently was what I came to after gaining the emic perspective during my experience which led to my self-reflection hence self-definition. Thus it can be inferred from my colleague’s posts and comments in line with my experience that social change can be well executed from the policy level driven by gaining a personal attachment and understanding of a societal need.

My colleague contends that different perspectives are needed to draw apt inferences to a situation and hence during data collection process, a language barrier can influence comprehension of the different perspectives (Ravitch & Carl, 2016). My colleague tends to agree with the aphorism that comprehending an individual fully requires the use of the individual’s language and not the language they understand. My colleague posits that the language barrier has a great influence on qualitative research (Smith & McGannon, 2018). There is a dearth of studies that aim at averting the cultural bias that a researcher could encounter. My colleague also contends the core and scope of research may not be reached if participants involved have some psychological constraints. The question that my colleague poses on how the quality of the collected data can be enhanced without redundancy and decreasing dependability is a question that needs perspicacious attention for anyone with interest of qualitative research.

My colleague’s reflection on problem statement and choice of qualitative approach in dissertation or doctoral studies signifies my personal views on qualitative data where I contended proper data collection and analytics. My colleague similarly asserts that the major aspects of a qualitative research are how the data collected is interpreted, their subjectivity, and how they can be tied to philosophical theories (Ravitch & Carl, 2016). My colleague is inclined to study quality of education, which is a problem that the wider world community experiences and which is a dynamic factor that needs sedulous studies. I totally am in agreement with my colleague that the above will result in a positive change. My colleague’s choice of steps in understanding access to quality of education by disabled children is actually commendable endeavor and the choice of qualitative research is apt to say at the least.
