Film Review of “The Last Waltz”

“The Last Waltz” is a final concert-video performance of the Band in 1978 and is directed by Martin Scorsese. It is composed of the following Band members: Robbie Robertson who is their guitarist, Levon Helms who plays drums, Rick Danko who is their bassist, Richard Manuel and Garth Hudson who are their pianist and instrumentalist organizer respectively.

This is a film that was released in the period whereby the Americans were losing interest on labor unions and politicians seemed to be eager in criticizing organized labor that harmed American competitiveness in the world market. In this film, a certain character, Norma Rae, emphasizes on experiences of a person living in Roanoke Rapid, who played the role of leadership in striving to win the union representation at the J.P Stevens Company (“Norma Rae (1979),” n.d.).
